Camera Basics Workshop

Do you struggle with your camera and get confused with all the weird settings and terminology? Do you want to take your DSLR and Mirrorless camera skills to the next level and capture consistently great pictures?
If the words shutter speed, ISO and aperture confuse you, then you need to come to my beginners workshop. I will go through all the basics of the camera and all that I have learned over years photography to help you apply them in the real outdoors.

No note taking, no handouts, live training, live questions in a real-life outdoor photography scenario with quickly changing lighting conditions.

We will start just before the golden hour, which will give us enough time to run through your camera settings and the theory, leaving the remaining time in workshop for photography coaching and real world experience.

I will be available throughout the 3-hour period to assist with any questions or help you get the best shot. I run these workshops in small groups, this enables me to give everybody enough attention to coach them personally and make sure that you’re able to make best use of your camera, whatever make and model it might be.

Locations

Our usual location for the beginners workshop is Dún Laoghaire or somewhere within Dublin City. Location details are sent to attendee’s after they purchase a workshop ticket. I only pick location close to Dublin City to ensure easy access to the workshop. These locations are usually covered by public transport or have available parking nearby.

Light Painting Workshop

Great, so you have some experience in handling your camera, how about we learn how to get a little creative now?

The second part of my workshop is designed to push your creativity as a photographer a little bit further. This is designed to work in tandem with the camera basics workshop. Gather a better understanding of your DSLR or Mirrorless camera and get better practice of everything you’ve learned previously and learn to create unique and interesting long exposures by adding a touch of light and color to less interesting landscapes, cityscapes or even portraits. We will use light sabers, light torches, fairy lights, flashes, and other light painting equipment to draw your own artistic creations.
Don’t worry about not being creative, this is all about helping you break out, practice, make mistakes and have fun.
No note taking, no handouts, live training, live questions in a real-life outdoor photography scenario.
We will start just before the sunset, which will give us enough time to run through your camera settings for the event and the theory of what we will be trying to achieve, leaving the remaining time for photography coaching.

We will dive into Shutter Speed, how it works and how to create long exposures and how to avoid grainy pictures and high ISO. We will touch on metering and focusing in dark conditions, but mostly, we will have fun and create something unique with simple lights and tools you can buy from a normal store.

I will be available throughout the 3-hour period to assist with any questions or help you get the best shot. I run these workshops in small numbers, this enables me to give everybody enough attention to coach them personally.

Locations

Our usual location for the workshop is Dublin City. Location details are sent to attendee’s after their ticket workshop. I only pick location in Dublin City to ensure that you’re able to access the workshop with ease with your own private transport or public transport.
