Glorious Sunset in Cloondara & Tarmonbarry
Bordering the Longford County is a small and quiet town of Cloondara. Sitting on the edge of the Royal Canal Greenway it is a perfect spot to relax on a sunny evening.
If you’re brave enough and have time on your hands, you can take the Royal Canal Greenway and walk along a flat paved path for a 130 km all the way to Mullingar, Enfield and Maynooth as the finishing point.
The canal has a huge offering of beautiful places to stop for a picnic or lunch.
On a rainy day, you can sit into the Richmond Inn and have a few beverages or take a walk along the canal and explore the beauty that the bog holds (you might even see a few bog hares)
A short drive from Cloondara sits Tarmonbarry Village in County Roscommon offering us some fine dining together with a short walk alone the River Shannon.
Both towns are situated about a 10-minute drive from Longford Town offering a quick escape from busy Longford Town. I often bring the dogs for a walk here or go for a run along the canal or a run into the bog.
If you are adventurous, the canal leads you into the bog, which has a rail crossing. This rail crossing will lead you all the way to the Lanesborough power plant. If you have a good weather, I advise on taking the day and enjoy the walk to Lanesborough.
