Dublin Beginner Photography - May 2020 Photo Competition / Critique 2
Hello Everyone,
We are finally hitting competition 6 and it seems like they have all flew by and thank you all for taking your time to participate and keep me and you occupied during the lock down.
Theme
Heading to next week is going to get a little more interesting for me & you, as we are going to explore a very basic concept, I teach in my beginner photography workshops. Which is shutter speed and being able to contain and portray motion. This means you will have to learn and understand how your shutter speed works and embed motion into your photo.
I have sifted through my Photo Gallery to get a good range of examples on motion in different forms that should be achievable for most if not all even within lock down conditions.
As before, the number one reason for this competition is to get you off the couch and away from Netflix and make the little noggin work and make you feel a bit better and more creative.
I will try post some useful resources during the week in our Facebook Group that will explain more about shutter speed and how it works. It should be achievable for everyone with a DSLR, Mirrorless Camera or even most smartphones with a decent camera. This is something that every beginner photographer should be able to achieve and experienced one’s should have mastered.
Guidelines
Each individual will have 1 week to submit a photo via email to info@photosbyevan.net feel free to post the image on our Facebook Page once you have emailed the photo to me.
Photos must be taken no earlier than May 2020. Remember the whole point of this is to keep us occupied and entertained during lock down and push us out of our comfort zone. Do not recycle old photos please. I will know ;) Ensure that the date in your camera is correct otherwise your image will not qualify.
Please submit one photo only.
Photos will then be reviewed and critiqued per each submission. If you wish to keep your critique personal, let me know during your email submission, photos not submitted via email, will not be considered.
All submissions will be available to view on our Facebook Page and on www.photosbyevan.ie for those that don't wish or want to use social media.
Photos will be judged based on:
Technique - is the image exposed correctly, sharp and in focus.
Composition - how do all the visual elements harmoniously express the purpose or intent of the image. Does the photo draw the viewer in to look where the creator intended?
Contrast - the difference between black and white in your images. Without contrast you would not have an image because there would not be any differentiation between light and dark; everything would be black, white, or a single shade of grey somewhere in between.
Creativity - how much effort you went through to achieve the perfect image that can capture the viewers’ attention.
Submission Deadline is 22nd of May 2020 @ 23:59. If enough submissions are maintained, a new photo competition will be announced on the 23rd of May. Hope this keeps your mind occupied during these hard times and help you focus on something fun and positive.
Here is a gallery of some of my images as suggestions for entries:
The winning submission will be posted as our Facebook Group and Meetup page backdrop until the next competition.
Regards
Evan
