Results of 1st April Photography Competition

Hi All,

I am very delighted to post these beautiful images that have been submitted by Dublin Beginners Photography Group.

I have divided all submissions into Tier 1, 2 and 3. Tier 1 represents the best photographic submissions followed by Tier 2 and 3.

On a little side note to ensure we are clear. If you are viewing these photos on your mobile phone, the description of each image and the artists name is underneath each image.

If you’re on an iPad or PC, description is either left or right of the image.

Without further delays, enjoy these beautiful photos and nature at it’s best.

Congratulations. This is my favourite photo of all the submissions. We have good centre composition, sharpness and good focus. Great shadows and highlights to create mystery and a small bit of dew to make it a little more unique. Well done.

Tier 1

Here are the images from the fellow photographers for Tier 1. Well done and congratulations.

Congratulations on your beautiful shot. It’s really hard to get a bee in the right place at the right time. The colours are nice and I love the clean background. Once again, a very focused shot and I can understand with ease, what you’re trying to show me. One tip I would throw in is try to have the shutter speed a little bit higher to eliminate some of the moving parts in the image. Otherwise, great job .

Andrea McDonagh

A beautiful and artistic display of dried flowers. Image is sharp and properly exposed. My only grief with this image is big green frame around the picture. I think it’s very distracting.

A beautiful submission, I love the partial separation from the background. You can see the flowers & plants around it, but not in full focus, this gives a bit of interest to the photo. A beautiful colour separation of the orange flower. My only tip would be try composing the image using the rules of thirds.

Tier 2

Closely followed by Tier 2 Submissions.

Miguel Rueda.jpg

A beautiful field of flowers & green colours from the trees. It does give me a feeling of being there. Good composition with the tree’s framing the focus on either side. My only tip is to try eliminate some of the green stalks in the front of the photo to eliminate distractions & make it all about the flower colour.

Thank you for this beautiful submission. It’s a very sharp and clean submission which is not easy to capture handheld. Photo is nicely exposed. However it lacks a bit of interest, I would like to see the photo either centred or composed with the rules of thirds. Would make it more pleasing to the eye.

Frano Vidic.jpg

Great submission of the dandelion Frano. It’s sharp, in focus, has great background separation and composed correctly using rules of thirds. One tip would be to try and look for more colourful backgrounds if you can. Luckily these flowers are not endangered and you can pick it up and move it anywhere with a nice colourful background to add interest to the image.

Sorina Popescu.jpg

A very nice capture of the blossom tree. Subject is sharp and in focus with a good pleasing and complementing background. I would try composing this photo a little different. It’s usually more pleasing when the leading lines of the picture comes from the corner of the frame. Re-cropping this photo to bring the subject closer and move the branch to the bottom left would help the subject stand out much more.

A very nice image and I love the color separation. A couple of tips from a technical point of view, try to select your focus points in camera, it seems the branch in front of the flower seemed more important to the camera and it ended up leaving the flower a little soft and lacking good detail. Otherwise, great submission!

Tier 3

Followed by the last Tier in our photo competition. Thanks so much for participating.

Beautiful flower and I love the little droplets on it. However, it’s a little blurry. When shooting at 200mm make sure that your shutter speed is at least 1/200 or double that of your focal length. This will eliminate any blur from a still subject.

Thank you for your beautiful submission of these tulips. I wish I was near a field of tulips now. Nice colours and picture is exposed correctly. My tip would be to avoid out of focus elements in the front of your photo. Our eyes usually focus and blur objects out without us thinking, but in an image, it ends up being a distraction. Good submission otherwise.

Well done on capturing this. A beautiful capture of the dandelion & the bee. Picture is correctly exposed, but lacking a little sharpness on the bee, it seems the camera decided to focus on the plant right of the dandelion. Try focusing with a single auto focus point to make sure the camera doesn’t grab the wrong subject in the frame.

Well done with your submission, its a huge step up from your first entry. I can clearly understand what you’re trying to show me and the flower is nice and sharp. One tip would be to move the flower to a different location to get a more pleasing background. Great submission.

Thank you for your submission, its a nice photo of a blooming flower on a tree. However, be careful on where you focus. As it seems the leaf in the centre of the image got all the focus, leaving some of the flowers out of focus. Also try to move around and look for a little more pleasing backgrounds.

Deborah Ni Lochlainn

A very mysterious photo. Looks like something that belongs on a cover of a thriller movie.

However, I feel that this image doesn’t match our theme and would be better tagged as forest.

Photo is a little bit over exposed, but I think it works pretty well in this situation and it gives it that foggy & mysterious feeling. Nice photo, well done.

Thank you all so much for participating. It’s great so see such enthusiasm.
